Rumors persisted for some time that Cobra had developed surgically altered Eels to give them insulation, webbed hands & feet and the ability to resist the effects of deep sea diving. The first confirmation came when a W.H.A.L.E. was attacked in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of north west Africa, with the Eel squad led by a Hydro-Viper. They successfully captured both the Action Force crew and a Tactical Analysis Computer System (T.A.C.S.) containing the key to many Ministry of Defence secrets. However a further crew led a rescue. In the battle the Hydro-Viper's head was crushed by a rock wielded by Lt. Falcon.[1]

Trivia[]

  • Whilst the Hydro-Viper toy appears to be wearing a full wet-suit, the comic depiction in "War beneath the Waves" implies that it is nearly naked and has surgically altered skin.
  • Hydro-Vipers appear as regular enemies on sections 1-1 and 1-2 in the NES Taxan G.I. Joe game (their pet manta rays appear on both sections as well).
  • Hydro-Vipers were only animated for commercials.
