- Undertows are Iron Grenadier characters from the A Real American Hero series.
Frogmen can swim in deep waters and fight through strong currents to get to their objective. The Undertows take that advantage one up with being equipped and willing to swim in the foulest water environment imaginable. They go where normal frogmen don't go, for example polluted harbor bays, industrial waste water, and the sewers. They wear non-corrosive, near-hermetically sealed wetsuits and they undergo special anti-infection shots that gives them some immunity from all but the strongest pathogens.

The Real American Hero Collection (2000) For the Real American Hero Collection, Undertow had his loyalty re-aligned to Cobra. He is sold in a two-pack with Firefly. Undertow's action figure uses the same mold from 1990 albeit recolored and came with a different set of accessories. |

Trivia[]
- Working names include River-Rats and Submarauders.
- The prototype filecard said "Undertow will swim through ANYTHING! you definitely don't want to get in a fight with one of these slimy characters, especially if you have any open cuts and haven't had a tetanus booster recently. Your best bet is to run away and throw grenades from behind cover!"
- Although Undertows appear and speak in some episodes of the DiC cartoon, their pet barracudas never appear.
