G.I. Joe vs. Cobra

From Joepedia - The G.I. Joe Wiki

This article refers to the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra toyline of 2002. For other uses, see G.I. Joe vs. Cobra (disambiguation).

In 2002, following the success of both Hasbro's The Real American Hero Collection and the new G.I. Joe comic book by Image/Devil's Due Publishing, G.I. Joe returned to toy aisles nationwide in G.I. Joe vs. Cobra. It is also the first part in the unofficial G.I. Joe vs. Cobra trilogy.

A continuation of the A Real American Hero continuity from the 1980's and 1990's, the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra franchise featured both new molds and redecos of older molds. The Devil's Due comic series, while not specifically written around the toy series, did eventually feature several of the line's new characters and revamped character appearances.

[edit] Toyline

As the name of the toyline suggests, the theme of the toys pit G.I. Joe against Cobra. Most of the carded action figures are released as two-packs, packaging one G.I. Joe and one Cobra action figure.
