Hard Master was the honorary title of a man who was an expert of Martial Arts. He helped to train both Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow in their youth.

History
As a young boy, Snake-Eyes attempted to steal food from the Arashikage temple. The result was a fight between Snake-Eyes and his nephew Storm Shadow. Impressed with Snake-Eyes' skills, the Hard Master decided to train him, despite his nephew's protests and watched them spar constantly. Displeased with his nephew's lethal fighting style he praised Snake-Eyes for his more peaceful ways and praised him when he finally defeated Storm-Shadow using tonfas while the later used an acutal katana. He appears to have been stabbed in the back by Storm-Shadow by his sword. Snake-Eyes saw Storm Shadow flee as he found his Sensei murdered.
It was eventually revealed in Retaliation that it was Zartan that murdered the Hard Master and Storm Shadow was framed for the crime, causing the entire Arashikage clan to mistrust him.
