Nobody feels more at home in the jungle than Recondo does. He is completely in his element there. While other troopers might consider the jungle to be hostile and unforgiving, to him, it is like a friend and anyone else who breaks in are intruders. Even when outnumbered by enemies, he often finds a way to use the dangers of the jungle against them. His vast experience has earned him an instructor status at the Jungle Warfare Training Center.

Recondo first appears in Battle Action Force as an Australian who is recruited along Flash and Ripcord in Action Force (G.I. Joe's British name) under the command of Duke. After Zartan begins killing corporals, the other soldiers of the camp blame the three men (Flash, Recondo and Ripcord) of bringing bad luck to the camp, so they quit. However, when they discover that Cobra is planning to attack the camp, they return and warn everybody.
Just like Ripcord, Recondo feels uncomfortable wearing a helmet. Recondo also tends to call names: he names Duke "his grace" and the Cobra Troopers "Cobbers".

|A Real American Hero (1984)
Appearance: green folded "cowboy" hat; brown hair and mustache; beige short-sleeved shirt with open collar; brown holster and belt; beige and green camouflage pants over black boots
Accessories: olive-green backpack with handle and canteen on back; olive-green wrapped M-1 4E2X machine gun with custom stock and bipod.
Variations: Some Recondo figures had softer, brown stripes on the legs instead of sharp green ones. They also had either a brown or green watch. The green camouflage pattern in the 1984 catalog and commercials was more complex than either of the released variety.
|Tiger Force (1988)
The Tiger Force version of Recondo was packaged with the Tiger Fly helicopter. Wild Bill was meant to be part of the sub-team but was not included. Tiger Force Recondo was a recolor of his original action figure.
Appearance: blue-grey folded "cowboy" hat; brown hair and mustache; blue-grey short-sleeved shirt with open collar; brown holster and belt; green pants with yellow stripes; brown boots
Accessories: medium green "Recondo" backpack; black "Recondo" rifle.
|Spy Troops (2003)
As part of the Spy Troops series, Recondo has an entirely new body sculpt. He is packaged in a two-pack with Iron Grenadier. If the pack didn't say "Recondo", you really wouldn't have known the figure was supposed to be that character. YoJoe.com page/Filecard
|Valor vs. Venom (2004)|
In the Valor vs. Venom 2004 line up, Recondo was a recolor of his Spy Troops version and sold as part of the Tiger Storm helicopter package. The toy vehicle included Wild Bill, Sand Viper and a copy of the Valor vs. Venom comic book.
|Valor vs. Venom (2005)|
The second Valor vs. Venom action figure of Recondo featured the same body sculpt as the Spy Troops version. However, his head is an all new sculpt and reminiscent of his original 1984 head. He was packaged with the Desert Coyote vehicle.
- Larry Hama's working name for Recondo was "Boonie Rat."
- His Tiger Force filecard suggests he was recruited to the Joe team as a helicopter pilot.
