Fiction

Animated continuity - Sunbow

Sparks was a character created for the cartoon. He appeared in three episodes of the G.I.Joe cartoon. At first, he's a member of G.I.Joe. In the Season 2 episode "Gray Hairs and Time," Sparks is apparently retired from G.I.Joe and works for a television station, yet still offers his services to his Joe comrades. He is voiced by Gregg Berger.

A Real American Hero comics continuity - Devil's Due

Sparks was introduced to the comic book universe by Devil's Due, during their publication era of G.I. Joe. He was established as an early liaison of the team - a Pentagon translator who developed a working relationship with General Flagg and helped him bring together the original formation of the G.I. Joe team. After the team was established, he served as the Pentagon's official connection to G.I. Joe. He befriended Recondo; years later, when Recondo was reported killed in action by Major Bludd, the presumed-dead Joe reached out to Sparks and had his friend keep his status as deceased, so that he could still help the Joe team from deep undercover (literally, beyond death). Sparks kept the facade alive and was the only person to know that Recondo was still alive.

He took on a more active role in later years, when General Joe Colton was overseeing Joe operations, assisting Joes with special missions both overseas and domestically. He also maintained the classified Data Desk, and was injured during the Phoenix Guard's assault on "The Rock" (Joe HQ at the time) while trying to purge the Data Desk to prevent Cobra access to that vital information. He recuperated at the home of Colton and his wife Jane.

Toys

Sparks was released as part of the 2007 International G.I.Joe Convention exclusive "Tanks for the Memories" box set from the Official G.I. Joe Collectors' Club.
