Super Trooper is a G.I. Joe character from the A Real American Hero series.

The man who was Lt. Latimer disappeared into a highly classified training program. What is only known is that it is a highly selective program searching for extremely resourceful individuals. Candidates are required to be fluent in at least three languages used in known enemy territories, airborne qualified and marksmen. The exact nature of the training is never found out. A man known only by the code name, Super Trooper, who looks very much like Lt. Latimer is the only known product of this program. Super Trooper is highly motivated, very patriotic and full of integrity. He is very much the thrill-seeking adventurer that Latimer is known to be for.

The Super Trooper was developed as part of an intense programme of rigorous training. Fifteen soldiers were selected and subject to the programme, which had a high fall out rate. By the final stages only two remained, Captain Joe De Niro and Captain Glen Goddard. In the final test they flew a Skystriker against pilotless Rattler drones. The Skystriker was shot down and they could not both eject as it would crash into a town. Goddard triggered De Niro's ejector seat and died crashing the jet where it did not hit the town. De Niro became the Super Trooper.[1]

Trivia

  • The first figure not to have a "function" name (e.g., Infantry Trooper for Grunt, or Green Beret for Lt. Falcon).
  • "Paul Latimer" was a Hasbro employee - the figure's original filename was Virgil M. Carmody.
  • Super Trooper is the first and only Joe released in the USA with chromed parts.
  • Working name was Hard Corps, and his prototype filecard said he "graduated at the top of his class through a new Army school that's so secret it doesn't even have a name. Suffice to say that the object of that program is to produce highly motivated individuals with advanced technical skills for deep penetration operations with virtually no support."
