Cobra gets involved in Borovia again, and the Joes take to space.

Detailed summary

Cobra Commander leads a ruthless invasion into the former nation of Borovia, now known as Borigia/Krazny-Marengo.

In the process, a pair of Vipers capture Magda and the White Clown, both of whom President Metz promises a fair trial. However, Cobra Commander takes matters into his own hands and brutally kills the two captives.

Meanwhile, in light of the findings in Millville, all charges against Spirit and Mutt are dropped, allowing them to move on.

Elsewhere, Stalker and Rock & Roll pay their respects to fallen comrades at Arlington, visiting the graves of several Joes killed in action. In Trans-Carpathia, Zartan, Destro, and Baroness closely observe the events unfolding in Borigia/Krazny-Marengo from their castle, which is soon joined by Billy.

Dr. Mindbender reveals a sinister plan to Cobra Commander, explaining that he has implanted devices in both Destro and Zartan that allow them to be controlled by Cobra.

This control is activated upon seeing Cobra Commander's unmasked face. At the same time, Clutch introduces the newest Joe group, Star Brigade, to the Pit in Utah.

The team, consisting of Roadblock, Sci Fi, Payload, Space Shot, and Duke, prepares for a space mission aboard the Shuttle Defiant.

As the Joes launch the Shuttle Defiant into space, Snake-Eyes and Scarlett watch the event from the High Sierras, taking a well-deserved vacation. In another part of the country, Jinx, Nunchuk, T'Jbang, and Dojo move into a building in Spanish Harlem to establish a new training center and dojo.

Meanwhile, in New Jersey, Zarana reunites with the Dreadnoks and the group rides off into the night together.

The story takes a dramatic turn when Destro, Zartan, Baroness, and Billy sit down for dinner, only to be interrupted by Cobra Commander, who reveals his face to them.

With tensions escalating and new alliances forming, the stage is set for an epic battle between the forces of good and evil.

Memorable quotes

"The world is changing and this country sure needs engineers more than it needs guys who jump out of planes with knives in their teeth. Take it from an old soldier. It's better to build things than tear them down."

--That's probably not going on the recruitment posters, Duke.

Other Notes

Errors

  • Dodger is mentioned at Arlington - in fact, he's the only member of Battle Force 2000 who didn't die.
  • Payload is a white guy again. He changes race more often than General Hollingsworth.
  • The Pit is in Utah. The High Sierras border Nevada and California. There is no way Snake-Eyes and Scarlett should have been able to see the Defiant's launch.

Items of note

Real-world references

  • The password to get into the Pit is "Bobby Heinlein," the author of such books as Starship Troopers.
  • There was a rap group from Flint, Michigan in the early '90s known as the D.T.K. Posse. The name in this issue may be a coincidence, because that's a super obscure reference.
